Mini biography: Thomas Kretschmann was born on September 8, 1962 and grew up in the East German town of Dessau. He started working as an actor at the age of 25, after being trained to be an Olympic swimmer. Up until 1989, he was a member of the Schiller Ensamble in Berlin. His work here included a production of MacBeth. In 1991 he went to Vienna, Austria where he did Zero Positive. He also did a part in Gerettet at the Kammerspiele Hamburg. Apart from this, his credits include a large number of television productions and films, including the critically acclaimed Stalingrad and U-571. In 1991 he received the Max Oph,l Prize for best young actor. He's currently living in Los Angeles.
